Tasos Vatikiotis tells me he has wrapped up renovations to transform his family’s Loudoun County-based carryout and catering business into a small sit-down bistro.

My Deli & Cafe Greek Bistro, at 860 E. Main St. in Purcellville, is in a former theater that was transformed into a 12,000-square-foot two-story shopping center and office building. The restaurant has been around since 2007.  Vatikiotis’ father, George, has been operating restaurants in the area since 1974, beginning with Prima Pizzeria in Falls Church. Now that George is retiring, Tasos has stepped up to take a more active role.

“It’s pretty cool what we’ve done here,” he said. “Now we have 24 seats including our outdoor tables, and are doing a lot of events with the schools and sports teams.”

The restaurant encompasses about 1,600 square feet. Vatikiotis declined to disclose how much was invested in the changes.

He said the area’s growing population and recent retail developments — a Harris Teeter grocery store is opening nearby and a larger Rite Aid recently opened — helped spur the family’s decision to expand its current digs rather than open a new restaurant elsewhere.

With Greek and Mediterranean dishes on the menu, the restaurant aims to mimic the quick-style modern eateries of Greece, where the family also owned a restaurant, Vatikiotis said.
